For Sale, Garmin GPS 95XL, ICOM A21 Radio

For Sale:

Garmin GPS 95XL
Brand new, less than 3 hours on unit
Extra Battery charger + 2 Nicad batteries

For anyone who has not owned a GPS, this is a
fantastic instrument.  Moving map display, new
"Americas" database (N. and S. America), which
includes all airports, with runway headings,
length, surface type and fuel type available.
Comes with a nice carrying case and yoke clip.
The accuracy of this unit must be seen to be
appreciated.  When landing, the moving map display
shows right over the treshold when the plane is.
I’ve used it for VFR and IFR, and wouldn’t fly
        without it.
                        $900 or best offer

Icom IC-A21 Radio (Receiver, transmitter and VOR Nav feature)
Extra Battery charger + 2 Nicad batteries
                        $300.00 or best offer

Manual on aerocrobat flying

Hi there,

Does anyone know any good manuals on aerocrobat flying and/or combat
maneuvering ? I have one manual about ACM in Mac flight sim F/A 18 Hornet,
but it’s not finished. Any good books or electronic manuals would be
great. Is there a FAQ ?
I think Flight Unlimited would be great, but since I have a Mac it will
take a while for FU to reach the mac market (;/)

Sincerely, Thon

Bermuda Triangle

Stupid question and probably out of the topic but…

I have heard stories about the Bermuda Triangle for ages.  Is it really a
real place?

I mean, do airplanes, including commercial ones, avoid flying in that area?

IFT Pro IFR Simulator for Sale

For Sale, Flight Deck’s IFT-PRO IFR Simulator.

This is the latest version, and works wonderfully.  I’ve
used it a "LOT" for preparation for real instrument flight.

Plus it comes with the SimuTech ProSim Plus digitized voice
ATC approach product.  This gives you real controllers who’ve
had their voices digitized lead you through approaches
(and enroute) exactly the same at the real ATC system.  I have
approaches for E. Texas and California.  I also have a "trip"
package which takes you enroute, then gives you random
approaches for the Hartford area.

This package together is worth $600.  I’m selling it for $250.

Re: What would you do[?]

Previously on What would you do…
Jus…@Tiger.Highway1.com.au (Justin Long) questioned his instructor’s
reaction to his decision to abort takeoff when no airspeed observed.

To which, k…@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Ed Krol) replied:

EK>If you managed to stop, you by definition did the right thing.

EK>i guess the bottom line is if you took off what would you have
EK>done then.

I agree with you and Ed.  It was your decision as PIC, and with sufficient
runway remaining to stop, there is no more risk in aborting than
continuing.  In fact, too few pilots are prepared for the possibility of an
abort (either takeoff or landing) and run into trouble.

As to what to do if the decision was to go, I’d say that this is an
excellent reason to practice with a covered (working) airspeed indicator,
preferably with an instructor who is familiar with the airplane.

I can tell you that if you put me in a Cessna 152 or 172 (airplanes I’ve
spent most of my instruction time in) I can tell you how fast we are going
simply by looking at the angle of the nose WRT the horizon, and the power
setting.  Likewise, I can tell you what power setting/flap setting will
result in what speed.  Given no airspeed indication, I could takeoff and
land just as well as if I had the instrument.

Not trying to blow my own horn here.  This is not a difficult skill.  My
students are amazed at how easy it is for THEM to do with very little
practice.  If that bug gets you in mid-flight, or heaven forbid, the pitot
collects ice, you will still be able to fly the machine with a high degree
of confidence and safety.

Alaska – Renting SEL Aircraft from Ancorage FBO's May 26-30, 1995???

I will be flying (commercially) up to Anchorage for the Memorial Day
weekend, and was hoping to be able to rent a SEL aircraft from some FBO up
there to do some sightseeing.  Can anybody help me with names or FBO’s.
We will only have Saturday-Tuesday a.m. for our visit.  I understand that
they would probably want to take me up for a check ride, but if it is
doable, my party would like to try it.

Likewise, if anyone has any information about good charter outfits which
might let me get a hand at the stick ( . . . OK, Yoke. . . ), if that
would be more efficient, that would be helpful.

Finally, if anybody just has some good suggestions on what should be seen
in that short a time, or where one should stay, I would be all ears.
Private eMail is ok too.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
