Thanks to the many fliers who contacted me on this question.
From the north, Hanscom (BED). There’s bus service (MBTA bus #76) that
connects with the subway system (the "T"), although it is about a 40
minute ride until you get to the subway. It goes to the Alewives station
(red line), which will take you to Fenway. See <http://www.mbta.com> for
fares and schedules.Try calling Executive flyers at Bedford 617-274-7227.
Oh, the bus doesn’t run on Sundays.
Logan is ultra-convenient, although bad if you want "cheap" — landing and
ramp fees will eat you alive; they start at $35 or so each. If cost is no
factor, Boston-Logan is the best alternative. The total is $43.50 for
landing and minimum ramp fees.
The most fun thing to do (especially if you can find someone familiar with
Boston) is to take the Free Airport Shuttle (it’s only free within the
airport NOT to and from the airport) from the GA Terminal to the water
taxi. Take the $7 water taxi across the harbor (it’s a very short ride)
and walk to Quincy Market (the progenitor of the various port city
renovations like the New York South Street Seaport).
Then walk to Government Center (Boston City Hall), 5 minutes, and take the
Subway (the "MBTA" a/k/a the "T") [Green Line] to Kenmore Square. Fenway
Park (home of the Red Sox) is a short walk.
This sounds like a lot of walking but the total walking for all "legs"
(somehow an appropriate term for walking) is about 25 minutes.
Taking the subway back, you need not take the water shuttle since there is
an Airport stop on the Blue Line.
When you depart Logan, ask if you can overfly Fenway Park before departing
the area.
When arriving at Logan, plan to arrive off-peak. Logan is really not THAT
busy off-peak. If you are arriving VFR, plan (if possible) to arrive from
the WEST rather than the North or South. Most jet arrivals flow
North-South. Also because of the parallel nature of the runways, a West
arrival can actually get you from altitude to terminal without ever
crossing or sharing an approach path with a jet (no separation headaches
for controllers).
As I’m coming from the south, I decided OWD (Norwood) (Class D) was the
best way. Inexpensive to overnight. Can take a taxi to the Norwood RR
and then train into Boston and Fenway (change to local subway. Whole trip
is easy. Call The Mass Bay Trans Authority (800-392-6100) or Norwood Air
At 617-769-5054 for information.
It is usually easy to get tickets to the game, unless it is a Yankee/Red
Sox game. The box office # is: 617-267-1700.
If you do arrive at South Station then you do take the red line to Park
St. and then The Green Line to Kenmore. It will take you about 30 min at
most. Kenmore is 3 blocks from Fenway.
You can also get off at Back Bay Station and walk 4-5 blocks and catch the
Green line (at Copley), Kenmore is only 2 stops from there.
Hope this helps.
