I cant believe you left out Palo Alto!  During the daylight hours there is
Helmuts Cafe (recently reopened) at the Golf Course.  Just three blocks down
Embarcadaro Rd. just before the Freeway overpass is Ming’s (Chinese) and
Scott’s (Seafood).  Both very good (and kinda pricey).  Just 5-7 minutes walk.

Embarcadaro is the North/South running road next to the transient tie down
area.

I sure would like to get your list of good places to visit for food.  Am
always looking for better places.  We have kind of gotten into a rut,
with Barbara’s Fishtrap where you get the best seafood for reasonable
prices and the Napa County Airport when Half Moon Bay is socked in.  Of
course, the Harris Ranch is at the top of my list when I have time to go
that far.

Arcada-Eureka – If the fog is gone, you might try Arcada-Eureka. They
have a nice lunch spot in the terminal.  I used to take my commercial
students on their long cross countries from CCR up the coast. They serve
the normal fare plus some interesting stuff like venison and buffalo. It
is a very scenic trip. Have fun,

Auburn – and there is a restaurant at Auburn but I do not know its
quality.  Auburn has gas at about 50 cents per gallon less than the
rip-off prices in the Bay Area.  

Boonville – is a small town west of Ukiah.  There are a couple of
restaurants within a few minutes walk of the airport and 10-15 minutes
will bring you to the Boonville hotel where you can get a gourmet meal.

Buchannan has a good hotel restaurant you can taxi to,

Cameron Park – is public use airport but not really any great food I’m
aware of.

Carmel Valley – Try the Running Iron in Carmel Valley for breakfast.  One
block from the landing strip.

Clear Lake

Concord -> The hotel at Concord (as well as a upscale Denny’s type place
nearby)
You’re referring to the Peppermill, across the street from the hotel.
Concorde (CCR): a hotel (Sheraton?) right on the field with a couple of
restaurants, a Peppermill across the street from said hotel, and a few
fast food chains in the vicinity.
Concord (Hilton Resturant, good sunday brunch),

Half Moon Bay is one of my favorite destinations.  There are several good
restaurants.  One thing I like to do is get fish and chips at the walk-up
window (Princeton Seafood Company?) and sit at one of the benches or
picnic tables right next to the harbor.
Barbara’s Fishtrap at Half Moon Bay is our favorite,

Holister – Ding-a-ling Cafe at Holister (breakfast)
Hollister usually has a variety of intesting planes to look at after your
meal.
You guys might try Hollister.  I soloed there about eighteen years ago
(yikes… the time!) and maybe it didn’t have a restaurant there at the
time, but there were always offers of a ride with other aviators,
"Hey you!  You wanna go to lunch with us?" was the cry from locals as I
was doing my solo work there on my lunch breaks from the job at MRY.
There were also offers of an airport car, to "go get a bean" back then.  
(To a complete stranger, (me) who was only passing through, no less!  
Wish I’d had more time to go with some of those guys!  I hope Hollister
is still the "perfect" little "pea patch" it usta be!
By the way, Nut Tree resturant is closed but the Coffee Tree across the
road isn’t bad.  

Lamson (Clear Lake)

Livermore – the golf course’s cafe at Livermore (actually pretty good)
Livermore (Cattleman’s),

Lodi – the cafe at Lodi (apple pancakes; yum)

Monterey (MRY): a restaurant on top of the passenger terminal.
Monterey – > Golden Tee at Monterey (so-so dinner)
Is this the one on top of the pax terminal?
That’s the one.  I’ve always had good luck with the seafood there.  I
usually get the sand dabs.  
Monterey has a good restaurant on the airport,

Napa Valley (APC): Jonsey’s Steakhouse right on the field
Napa County – has an EXCELLENT  steak house on airport,
Jonesy’s at Napa (steaks)

Oceano County (???): bbq’s across the street…

Petaluma – Two-Niner Diner at Petaluma (breakfast/lunch; yum)

Pine Mountain Lake has a restaurant.

Salinas – the bar and grill at Salinas (not so good)

San Carlos – Sky Kitchen at San Carlos

San Jose -> 94′th Aerosquadron at San Jose
They have jacks in which you can plug in headsets… I didn’t try them
though.
San Jose International has a good one in the Jet Center,

San Luis Obispo (SBP): a restaurant right on the field.
San Luis Obispo – try the Spirit of San Luis restaurant.  
San Luis Obispo (Spirit of 76),

Santa Barbara – Elephant Bar at Santa Barbara which has good Mud Pie for
dessert.  The last time I was there I got a 10% discount for showing my
pilot certificate.
There is a better place down on the beach, walking distance.  Can’t
remember the name.  Something like Sandspit.

Santa Maria, – Willows Glen County (Nancy’s),

Santa Rosa – Seleni’s at Santa Rosa (California style; yum)
Santa Rosa, Napa (Jonesy’s),

Watsonville (WVI): a Mexican restaurant right on the field.
Watsonville has a good mexican restaurant and the airport is often open
when Half Moon Bay is socked in.
Zuninga’s at Watsonville (mex)

Willows – A lot of people fly to Willows just for the home made pie.  

Try out this web site that I found recently.  Has lots of info on flying
for $100 burgers!

You can also get food at Harris Ranch (good steaks), Petaluma, Napa, Nut Tree
(there are a couple nearby, and they have the outlet stores too).

Half Moon Bay is one of my favorite destinations.  There are several good

If you wish to venture farther North, try Lamson (Clear Lake) or Boonville.

A lot of people fly to Willows just for the home made pie.  

If you want to go farther South try the Spirit of San Luis restaurant at
San Luis Obispo.  If you go even farther, there is the Elephant Bar at

Other good places are Petaluma (Two-Niner Diner), Santa Rosa, Napa (Jonesy’s),
Livermore (Cattleman’s), Concord (Hilton Resturant, good sunday brunch),
San Luis Obispo (Spirit of 76), Santa Maria, Willows Glen County (Nancy’s),
and Hollister.  By the way, Nut Tree resturant is closed but the Coffee Tree
across the road isn’t bad.  Cameron Park is public use airport but not really
any great food I’m aware of.
