Has anyone any experience flying a Aviat Husky? I am intereseted in
buying one of these but I ahave heard some negative things about it.
How does it handle? I have heard over the years that you can’t get a
full stall landing due to insufficint elevator or forward CG. And that it
is difficult to land, hard to flare correctly despite person in the back.
Any comments? It sure looks well built.

A few years ago I talked the Aviat rep into a ride. He brought thing up =
for the Gulkana airshow, & we met later to fly it. Keep in mindd that I =
am a dyed-in-the-wool Cub driver. I showed up for the flight with 80 lbs =
in salt bags for "ballast" – I needed to know how it handled at gross wt. =
Although the rep really didn’t want to, I was in the front, so we went =
out to a strip I use for off-airport training. Cruise was about 130 kt =
IAS, and slow-flt was very nice. I got the feeling that i could learn to =
land it as short as I land my Cub with practice (200-300ft). I did not =
see any of the negatives you mentioned. The brakes do have authority, =
and could nose you over if you aren’t careful. The only ting I did not =
like is the inability to extend inside baggage, and the crease the flap =
hinges put in my head {;-(.
All in all I found it a very nice utility aircraft. I offered to trade =
him my Cub for it on the spot…. but he didn’t take it. I haven’t run =
out an bought one either.
