Re: Weather stuff off the net.

For the last 2 weeks I have been using the Ill. St. U. weather machine
system to retreive and view hourly weather images in .gif format.  These
have been great!  I use the radar surface images with pressure contures
and sigmet info as well as satelite images of the area of interest.  I
have even down loaded the images and converted them into .fic format and
run them as a movie, such as they do on the weather channel.  I also can
print these out on a laser or dot matrix printer as a hard copy.   I use the
hard copy as visiual reference when talking to FLight Service.   To do this
you need a application that supports gopher services.  I use Mosaic which
is free from many site’s on the net.  Then a freebee gif viewer off the net
as well.  These are windows apps so you need that too.  I also use UNIX
versions as well.   ANy questions on how to set up drop me a line.

What do you use to play the .fic files? Is there a shareware version of the .ficplayer?*

"Conducting fuel-consumption tests on a new twin-engine plane,
we were en route from Pennsylvania to Florida.  Just north
of Richmond, Va., I called the air-traffic controller to make
a position report on our plane, whose designation was 5000Y.
The controller, in a Southern drawl, replied, ‘Oh, no, not
again!’  I was puzzled by the response until I realized what
I had said: ‘We are 5000 Yankee, 25 miles north of Richmond.’"
