Scrooge: Christmas at Belfort Instruments

With everything that I have heard about Belfort, I would think people
should wonder who owns this company. Personally, I thought it was
SCROOGE.  A search at http://www.nasdaq.com
revealed "No matches found" for Belfort Instrument Inc. So the company
must be privately-held.

A search at
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=Belfort+Instrument+Inc+owner…
revealed:

Reissue Applications Notice – OG Date: 26 February 200226, 2001, Cl.

Record: Belfort Instrument, Inc., Baltimore, MD, …

It makes one wonder if he reads his own books!  If he had, he’d know
that Belfort Instruments is in the fast lane to nowhere!

Uncle Scrooges are everywhere, huh!

No years.  Libel isn’t a criminal matter in the US of A.  It is in a
few other countries.  But potentially a lot of money.

I’ve been thinking about this phantom.  He’s not a regular Troll,
after all.  There are a couple of reasons he’s doing this.

    1) He’s a former employee who was fired for cause
    2) He’s a competitor
    3) He was a dealer or a suppler that they stopped doing business with

One thing he is certainly not – he’s not an unhappy customer, or he
would just tell his real story.

I think #1 is most likely, of course.  Has anyone called Belfort and
asked?  They might know already.  Or they might be interested in
knowing what’s being said about them.

Certainly it does.  But when you post – or publish, or broadcast –
something that is not true, and financially harms someone else (or a
corporation) they have a cause of action against you.  I note that in
this post you are using a UK return address.  That is not a good idea.
It is MUCH, MUCH easier to prove libel in the UK than in the US.
Basically, the burden of proof is on you, not on them.  I suggest you
read a primer on UK libel law here –
    http://www.urban75.com/Action/libel.html

Since the Usenet is distributed in the UK, and Belfort does business
there (like most companies now days, they do business anywhere there’s
a customer with money) and you’re using a UK return address, you
pretty much fall under their jurisdiction.  It would be dead simple
for Belfort to print out your posts and get a multi-million UK default
judgement against you.  How widely was your post distributed?  Was it
likely to result in financial harm to them?  Did you intend for it to
harm them?  Answer these, you’ll know how much the judgement will be.

How will they enforce it, you ask?  It depends on where you actually
live, and how good your relationship with the local government is.
They can take that judgement to a local judge, and get him to issue an
order to the local sherrif to sieze your belongings.  To do any of
that they’d have to know who you are – but I’m guessing they know that
already.  I’ll bet you had some significant encounters with them in
person long before you started this little defamation campaign.

Hardly.  Before you had posted I had never heard of Belfort.  Since
then I’ve had to buy some weather instrumentation, and (since they
were the only company I’d heard of) gave them a small order.  They
delivered faster than scheduled, their equipment has worked perfectly
since then.  They’ve been responsive and knowledgable on the phone,
and very pleasant to work with.

How very odd.  We were talking about weather instrumentation,
international libel law and corporate governance.  Somehow you’ve made
the leap to the topic of homosexuality.  How is it that this is the
first topic you associate with the law?  Have you had your own
unfortunate run-ins with the law and homosexuality?
    :
:Everything in this newsgroup about Belfort can be verified and is in
    :fact true!

No one has been able to figure out what your arguments are, much less
    been able to verify them.

    :Thus, your argument is moot!

Actually, no.  While the truth is an absolute defense in a US libel
case, that is not so in the UK.

:It is also clear that you
    :know nothing about jurisdiction whatsoever!

Again, no.  The EU constitution is a marvelous thing.  It breaks down
all the old ideas about jurisdiction.  Belfort could – if it chose –
sue you for libel in any one of the EU countries.  Now, they’d have to
have the cooperation of local authorities to enforce a judgement, but
I’m betting that the local constabulary doesn’t feel very sympathetic
to you, where ever you really are.

    :So take your homo views,
:and share them with your boyfriend!  He may giva a rats ass and give
    :you come of his!

Again, why are you so obsessed with homosexuals?  Was your gym teacher
a little friendlier than he should have been?  Were you trying to
learn a bicycle and answer an ad titled "Bi-curious"?

    :
:The truth hurts individuals like you, because sooner or later, you’ll
:have problems and remember that you were stupid …literally stupid!

A brilliant argument.  I do not see how I can possibly answer this,
given your extraordinary insight and clarity of mind.
    :
:I do NOT like Belfort for the way they treat their employees

Which reminds me – how do YOU know how Belfort treats their employees?
Their employees aren’t picketing, or taking out ads protesting how
they are treated.  They aren’t sending out press releases.  If, in
fact, they are treated badly, how has it come to your attention?

    :, and their
:equipment has a lot to be desired!

In my admittedly limited experience, their equipment has performed
    without flaw or fail.

:It is my opinion based on fact and
:truth!  Heck, maybe you can represent them, and see how far you get!
    :
:My viewpoint has just begun, and it shall continue as long as i desire!

English is not your first language, is it?  It’s not mine either – I
didn’t learn any more than the basics until I moved to the west.  I
recommend that you spend time with native speakers.  "My viewpoint has
just begun" is a very strange construction in english, like "all your
base are belong to us."  A "viewpoint" is a single thing, not a
process.  Think of a streetsign, rather than a journey.  You have a
viewpoint or you don’t.  You might develop one, you can certainly
expound on one.  You don’t begin one.  On the other hand, your
argument, or your diatribe, or your incoherent delusional rant may
    have just begun.

: So, go craw up your boyfriends A**!

Mysterious Phantom, this obsession you have with my boyfriend’s a** is
very unhealthy.  You should seek professional help – either from a
qualified psychological councilor, or perhaps an experienced female
prostitute who can introduce you to heterosexual intercourse.  It
really is a marvelous thing, and you might find that you enjoy it once
    you’ve tried it.

the right to their opinions and slam whom they so desire!  It’s called
freedom of speech!  if they outright make up untruths, maybe you have
something.  But, there are many criterias which must be met!

You need to go back to afghanistan and play with your dictator friends
in the Taliban!  in fact, you are harassing this individual and making
threats towards him, with your posts!

Ideally, he should come after you, and sue you and have the sherriffs
empty your home and bank accounts!

You also need to do some reasearch into Supreme Court decisions and the
right to present open debate on issues!

Anyway, GET A NEW NAME, and go back to your third world scarf wearing
unshaven populace and interact with your unbathed stinking salad
    tossing misfits!

Your nothing but an ape-like sphincter!

:You appear to be a real jerk!

Why thank you!  You’re clearly an expert on the third derivative of
    position.

:Who in the hell made you the internet
    :policeman!  You obviously cannot read,

Really, it’s just that you cannot write.  At least in English.

: nor understand that people have
:the right to their opinions and slam whom they so desire!  It’s called
    :freedom of speech!

It’s called libel, Effendi.  And your anonymous proxy servers in
Russia, Colombia and Korea won’t stop a judgement if Belfort gets
    serious about you.

That’s the difficulty, isn’t it.  As long as you post in a bizarre,
half literate circle-jerk of sock puppets Belfort won’t see you as a
threat worth dealing with.  But that won’t do them any harm, either.
If you ever come up with something that will really hurt them, they’ll
write a large check to their lawyers and drop a truck on your head,
    figuratively speaking of course.

:if they outright make up untruths, maybe you have
:something.  But, there are many criterias which must be met!

Again, you use this odd construction.  Are you writing in another
language and using a translating program?
    :
:You need to go back to afghanistan and play with your dictator friends
    :in the Taliban!

Ah, the Taliban!!  They were so much fun to hunt.  They made a nice
squealing sound when you shot them.  How I miss them.  I almost wish
they would come back to power so I could go kill more of them.  Once
we took one and gave him to some of the local women he’d tortured.

Kipling was right – never let them give you to the Afghan women.

:in fact, you are harassing this individual and making
:threats towards him, with your posts!

Advising someone that they are putting themselves at risk is a threat?
Ah, I see.  In your world you let the children run out into the
street.  Of course, how could I have been so blind!!
    :
:Ideally, he should come after you, and sue you and have the sherriffs
:empty your home and bank accounts!

Indeed?  Because I have pointed out his exposure to a legal action by
Belfort?  Might I ask what claim he might have?  How has he – that is,
    you – been damaged?

Let me think on this.  For you to have been damaged by my posting that
you’re libeling Belfort, my posts would have to have deprived you of
income.  That would mean that you’re making money from your posts.
And that means that our mysterious poster is one of Belfort’s
competitors!  Of course, it is clear to me now.
    :
:You also need to do some reasearch into Supreme Court decisions and the

:Anyway, GET A NEW NAME, and go back to your third world scarf wearing
:unshaven populace and interact with your unbathed stinking salad
    :tossing misfits!

We are all aware that you GET A NEW NAME once a day.  What we can’t
understand is why you bother.  When you post it’s obvious, from the
broken syntax and, of course, the topic.  You never stray from your
single issue – any when no one agrees with your assertions you create
a new name and restate them in ever more fractured language.  We all
know it’s just you.  In fact, most people don’t even notice that
you’re using more than one name.

    :
:Your nothing but an ape-like sphincter!

Once again your brilliant jape leaves me humbled.
