Where to park in the NYC area

I’m going to be flying into the NY area next month and, unlike previous day
trips, I’ll be parking the plane for a while.  I usually go into Teterboro or
Westchester, but I expect the parking fees are higher there.  I would
appreciate a recommendation for an airport/FBO from which I can get to
Manhattan in a reasonable way but won’t cost me too much to park.  Thanks.

    Thanks.

Lee, you trying to cripple our economy?

Come on in and experience NY living.  A CAR at LGA is over $12/day, plus
    all they rip off.

(If you get the impression I don’t like NY you’re right).

Sorry not to give good feedback, but just jumped on to vent anger with
    the way NY is run.

LGA?  What about HPN.  I took a trip out of HPN recently.  It’s about equal
distance to LGA and HPN from where I live, I figured I’d go to HPN and 1)
save on parking and 2) get on some more interesting aircraft.

I did OK on #2 (Dash-8, complete with pre-flight cockpit tour), but 12
frigging bucks a day to park my car!?  I guess Westchester County wants
their airport to have the look and feel of a big city airport.  New fancy
multi-level parking structure, new terminal building.  Feh.  I’d be a lot
happier with parking for $3/day on a gravel lot.  At least they’re not
building any jetways (that I know of).  The trip to Florida for a week was
$300 in airfare and $96 in parking for my car.

So, you love NY’s ATC, but hate everything else about it? :-)

Uh, yeah, me too.  Sorry if this wasn’t really about piloting, but it felt
good to vent a bit about it.  Gotta run, I’ve got 1.5 hours to get to work
    on public transportation (17 miles)….

Check out Linden.  Last time I was there it appeared they had a surfeit of
ramp and hangar space.  The approach is a little hairy, in the lee of
Newark, down low, then you’re dumped by the Neward tower in the middle of
the traffic pattern with no clue as to how people are landing.  The
foregoing assumes you don’t simply sneak in under the Class B.

Haven’t been in the NYC area for a few years but I always liked Morristown,
Fairfield County or Lincoln Park (particularly Lincoln Park – an old fashion
airport that was fun to fly out of).  Any of them are about 1/2 hour from NYC
    but have lodging near by.

As I said, its been a few years so be sure to check and make sure they’re
    still around.

Fairfield County?  Um, I think you’re talking about "Essex County Airport",
which is located in Fairfield, NJ, but which everybody just calls Caldwell.
There is such a place as Fairfield County, but it’s in Connecticut.
    Confusing, isn’t it? :-)

Caldwell, yea that’s the place.  Memory is the second thing to go.

Anybody out there from Lincoln Park – they used to have a *GREAT* AP – Tom
Stevens.  He annualed my 310 over night for me one time when I had a schedule
nobody could meet.  Also a CFI, Sam Califioria, or something like that.  I
really liked the neat old time atmosphere there – reminded me of the good ole
    days.

Does Flushing airport still exist ? If so its only a few
    miles past LaGuardia.

It’s still on the charts (marked as closed), and still in the AFD, with a
note that it’s under redevelopment, but the runways are under water, or
something like that.  From what I gather from the grapevine, the chances of
it ever reopening are pretty slim indeed.

Yup, New York is something else alright…
Don’t miss it at all (except for the jazz scene)

Alas, if it were still open it’d be the closest airport to my house in
Bayside, Queens (NYC), but it really is unuseable.  The state of the
runway is terrible; standing water and lots of overgrowth coming up
through the unrepaired cracks.  I wouldn’t even attempt to land a plane
on it.  It’s so bad, you’d be hard pressed to even find it if you
    didn’t know where it was.

Not to mention that it looked like the city was using it as an impound lot
the last time I was in New York.  Kind of sad that it’s gone.  ’Twas the first
place I went and watched airplanes as a kid (from across the street at
    Adventurer’s Inn).
